The International Debate Education Association (IDEA) is a global network of organisations that uses debate as a way to promote civic engagement and social transformation. It provides resources and training on debate as well as hosts debating events for educators and young people. IDEA Central Asia started in 2010 as a debate program under the Soros Foundation and became an independent nonprofit youth organization in 2014. It partners with schools, universities, debate organisations community groups, as well as government authorities, foundations and businesses across the region.

IDEA Central Asia turned to PN for organisational development support focused on ensuring its structure and systems remain adequate following its recent growth. The aim is to enable the organisation to become financially fully autonomous and sustainable over the next 3 years.

IDEA Central Asia faced a leadership change at the time when the collaboration started, so the initial phase of the organisational development was dedicated to supporting a smooth transition between the out-going and in-coming Executive Directors, taking the opportunity of PN’s visit to have staff reflect on lessons learned and implement a few easy changes. The PN team will facilitate another participatory workshop early 2017 to conduct a more comprehensive assessment of the organisation’s needs and priorities, using also the results of a survey they conducted with IDEA Central Asia’s partners and donors. Together they will develop a roadmap which will be implemented in the following months.

PeaceNexus is helping us to build capacity of our young team and establish a mission-driven organization with stronger governance. Thanks to PN, we were able to conduct needs assessment of our staff and identify areas for improvement. Looking forward to further cooperation in developing effective monitoring and evaluation system and comprehensive fundraising strategy.
