The Rugiagli Initiative, a group of experienced health workers and peacebuilders, has been exploring the potential and interest for health professionals to act as “connectors” in divided societies. The PeaceNexus Grant supported a pilot project in Southern Thailand, where health workers are one of the few remaining boundary points in the daily life of communities that tend to segregate. In addition, the team conducted an exploratory mission to Myanmar.

Following the workshop for medical professionals held in Krabi, 5-8 December 2013, the proceedings, background information, and outcomes were published as a book in English (eventually also available in Thai).  In this respect, experience and coping strategies of medical personnel working in the southernmost provinces of Thailand were documented and contributions from various experts on key learning topics compiled and presented.  This book, which is available in its entirety online here https://sites.google.com/site/thaibookproject/ , is conceived as a tool for health personnel working at the frontlines of violent conflicts in Thailand, in the region, and globally.
