The United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY Peacebuilders) is a global network of young people and youth organisations active in the field of peacebuilding and conflict transformation. The organisation was founded in 1989 and has member organisations in many violent conflict and post war regions as well as in more stable regions. The core activities of UNOY Peacebuilders include capacity building as well as advocacy and campaigning. Furthermore, UNOY Peacebuilders supports its members by providing networking possibilities, sharing information, providing a pool of resource persons, carrying out research, fundraising as well as giving administrational support.

UNOY Peacebuilders requested PN’s support to develop its current structure with the aim of strengthening the activities of the network at the local and regional level. As a first step, UNOY Peacebuilders and PN developed a roadmap that will allow the network to grow its structure in a way that is sustainable and meets the specific needs of its members in each region. UNOY Peacebuilders just hired an external facilitator to conduct further consultations with network members and accompany the process as it unfolds. On the basis of the facilitator’s recommendations, UNOY Peacebuilders’ International Steering Group will finalize the new structure, which will then be launched through kick-off events in the different regions.

While it is too early to report on any result, the process so far has already helped clarify the parameters of the network’s future structure with the aim of ensuring it adequately supports UNOY Peacebuilders’ ambitious vision and recent growth.

The support from Peace Nexus has enabled us to take a step back and reflect on the ways we work together as a network, to identify methods to strengthen cooperation among member organisations and clarify the relationships between different actors within the network. Opportunities for this type of introspection and organisational development are extremely important for a global civil society network such as ours, to ensure that we are able to work together effectively towards our common objective of building a world free from violence. We are very grateful to the support from PeaceNexus and excited to see where the organisational development process will take us.”
