This June, our partners Réseau Billital Maroobé (RBM) organised the Regional Herders’ meeting, gathering more than 100 herders and key local actors from 9 countries, to share the findings of their study ‘Pastoralism and Insecurity in the Sahel and West Africa’, highlighting the reciprocal impacts between the pastoralism crisis and the security crises in the region.
With RBM representing a constituency of over 75 pastoralist organisations, the report is unique in gathering the perspectives of over 2000 pastoralists across 23 regions in 7 countries most affected by the insecurity. Learn more about the report and its important findings in this interview with the lead author, Mathieu Pellerin.
Later in the month, RBM co-hosted the high level meeting with the G5 Sahel Secretariat, where they shared the findings of their study and presented the results of the meeting to the Prime Minister of Niger. You can more about the event here and read the official communique (both in French).
