International Organisation for Migration
Established in 1951, the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is the leading inter-governmental organisation in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people.
There is a growing demand for earlier and deeper engagement in humanitarian, protection, stabilization, peacebuilding and transition programming, in some of the world’s most challenging conflict-contexts. This is why IOM sees it as essential to have a flexible yet robust capacity, at an institutional level, to ensure that conflict sensitivity and Do No Harm principles are applied in the analysis, design and implementation of its work.
IOM have requested PeaceNexus support to enhance its institutional orientation to conflict sensitive analysis in support of strategic planning, and the organisation’s capacity in conflict analysis and conflict sensitive programme design for operational responses in crisis contexts. PeaceNexus has supported a review of some of IOM’s operational frameworks across its programme cycle, and have helped develop guidance on how conflict sensitivity can be strengthened at different levels.
