Conflict Management in the Kyrgyz Mining Industry: Review of Challenges and Company Practices
This practice paper offers an overview of the practices and requirements for mining company engagement with local communities in Kyrgyzstan, alongside recommendations as to how companies can manage and prevent conflict within the mining industry. Building upon the findings from the “Guidebook for Conflict Management in Mining Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic”, this study further explores ways in which existing good practices could be adapted to prevent conflict in other regions. Strengthening Corporate Reporting on SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions
This practice paper highlights the inconsistency between the importance given to the topics captured under SDG 16 on Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by investors and standard setting agencies (84% of whom consider it (very) relevant to report on) and the lack of reporting on SDG 16 by companies. One reason for limited reporting is lack of practical guidance. This paper provides indicators for the five SDG 16 targets that were considered most operationally relevant according to the stakeholders interviewed. Read the executive summary here.
